About
Rise of Fly Fishing the Documentary
The sport of fly fishing has been around for centuries in all corners of the globe, but most don’t know that many of the flies, rods and techniques that are used today evolved with expertise and technology from the 80s, 90s and 2000s. With specific casting and anchoring techniques, and universally popular flies created to mimic the local insects, the influence BC has had on the stillwater fly fishing is immense.
This documentary special will look at the evolution of flyfishing on lakes in BC and the legends who made an impact on the industry and sport as whole. We will look at the historical roots of fly fishing and how the sport has grown over the last four decades.
Some of the individuals and organizations we will interview include provincial biologist and fly fishing expert Brian Chan, who has more than 40 years of intimate knowledge of the trophy stillwaters in BC’s interior; author, TV personality and commercial fly tyer Phil Rowley; as well as some of the key organizations that support the industry like Freshwater Fisheries Society of BC and the BC Federation of Fly Fishers. We will also look at some of the iconic fly patterns that have become legendary in British Columbia and beyond.
Hosted by Mike Mitchell, editor if BC Outdoors Magazine and host of BC Outdoors Sportfishing, this documentary will take you on a passionate, interesting and deep dive into this intricate world of angling.
